TEACHING
Ms. Miller’s performance background, coupled with a Master’s degree in Education from Sarah Lawrence College, give her the ability to understand the complexities of the learning process and to bring her professional expertise to her students in a way that works for them as individuals. Having worked with all ages and levels from elementary school to college, Ms Miller has gained a broad knowledge of students’ different learning styles and requirements. Ms. Miller’s teaching experience is extensive, including two years at the University of Western Ontario, a teaching assistantship at Indiana University, and privately in San Francisco, New York City, and Westchester. Her students excel as they learn how to master the difficult flute repertoire technically and musically, as well as how to produce a beautiful, rich sound. Instruction is tailored to each student’s ability and level. Because every performer is different, hers is not a “cookie-cutter” instructional method, and the results she achieves with her students prove the success of her work.
Ms. Miller’s background demonstrates a solid foundation of study with some of the best teachers of their time including flutists Arthur Lora, Henry Zlotnik, Juilius Baker, and Jean-Pierre Rampal. She has learned from these excellent musicians how to play well and, most importantly, how to teach effectively. This has inspired her to pass on the knowledge of these masters to her own students.
