Alan attended Berklee College of Music on scholarship studying jazz composition and piano performance. His education includes studies with Hal Crook and Charles Banacos in jazz theory and improvisation and private classical studies with Bach specialist Dr. Peter Gach.

Alan received his B.S. in music from Lehman College studying composition and orchestration with John Corigliano. He has performed in a diverse variety of settings including working as a rehearsal pianist for Steven Sondhiem and he has performed and/or recorded with the Charles McPherson Quartet, the Lou Donaldson Quartet, Dr. Lyn Christie Trio, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, comedian Steve Allen, The Drifters, The Five Satins, Jim Cammack, Kim Plainfield, Buddy Williams, Kenwood Dennard, Emedin Rivera, Bill Bickford, Lou Volpe, Wayne Johnson, Hank Easton and others.

He currently performs as a leader and sideman in several groups throughout the New York area.
