James Cucinotta graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree from the Purchase Conservatory of Music. There, he studied with renowned clarinetist Ayako Oshima. During this time, he played in master classes featuring clarinetist Charles Neidich, flutist Tara Helen O'Connor and bassoonist Donald McCourt. James was principal clarinetist in the Purchase Conservatory Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Jesse Levine, where he played in numerous symphonies, ballets and operas. James currently performs and records throughout the country.
James has a teaching style that is highly grounded in the classical music world. He believes that proper technique coupled with practice is the key to musical growth. His first priority as a teacher is to make sure that his students enjoy the learning experience. James builds his lesson plans around the specific needs of each student, creating an environment that is both relaxed and focused.
