New York native from Rockland County, Jill Collura was self-taught on the piano at an early age, began flute at 9, and formal studies at age 12. Throughout high school, Jill explored the woodwind family thoroughly, before settling on the bassoon in her senior year. She has earned her Bachelorís of Music Degree from the Music Conservatory of Purchase College, State University of New York on Bassoon Performance under the tutelage of bassoonist Donald MacCourt, of the New York City Ballet, Leonard Hindell, former member of the New York Philharmonic, Kim Laskowski, New York Philharmonic, and Tara Helen OíConnor, flutist of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Jill is now a free-lance musician on bassoon, flute and clarinet throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Bermuda, performing in groups such as the Orchestra of St. Lukeís, New York Pops, Queens Symphony, the Broadway musicals ìThe Phantom of the Operaî, ìA Catered Affairî, a member of the Artemis Chamber Ensemble, principle bassoonist of the Chappaqua Orchestra, and founding member of the Hypatian Duo, performing on flute/clarinet/bassoon/saxophone with harpist Annabelle Taubl. Jill also teaches clarinet, oboe and bassoon at the Allen-Stevenson School in Manhattan, and gives private lessons on flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, and piano.
