Dr. Fairchild graduated from Syracuse University with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music (voice) degrees. He earned his Master's and Doctor of Education degrees in Voice from Columbia University Teachers College. He teaches a vocal technique based on posture, areas of relaxation, breathing, and maximum use of resonation, the result of long-time studies with noted voice teacher and voice therapist David Blair McClosky.

For 24 years, Dr. Fairchild taught vocal music in the Eastchester Junior and Senior High Schools. He has taught voice and piano privately for over 35 years with studios in New York City and Westchester County. Students have performed On and Off-Broadway, on television and radio, in movies and on recordings.

His students have included Ricki Lake (The Ricki Lake Show), Chloe Webb (“Forbidden Broadway,” “China Beach,” “Twins”), William Solo (“Les Miserables”), Gerald Alessandrini (Creator, Director, “Forbidden Broadway”), Regina O’Malley (“Blood Brothers”) and Darlesia Cearcy (Star of “Ragtime”).
