Amadeus offers both private and group music theory classes. The classes are tailored to the age experience level of the students ranging from beginners to advanced. The theory classes are both engaging and fun and are based on interactive games such as rhythmic and melodic bingo, sight singing games and hands on participation using white boards and other materials. The basic curriculum is outlined below.

CURRICULUM
Rhythm
Pulse, Meter, Measures, Note Values, Rests, Dotted Notes, Time Signatures, Compound Meter, Triplets and Duplets, Ties, Syncopation, Repeat Signs, Tempo

Melody
The Staff, Noteheads, Cleffs, Ledger Lines, The Octave Sign, How to Read a Musical Map

The Keyboard
The White Keys, The Black Keys, Enharmonic Pitches, Intervals, Accidentals

Major Scales
Scales as Interval Patterns, Elements, Naming Scale Degrees, Ear Training

Major Key Signatures
Sharp Keys, Flat Keys, Enharmonic Keys, The Circle of Fifths: Major Keys

Internals
Interval Identification, Compound Intervals, Harmonic Inversion of Intervals


Students in the class should order the following books:

A Creative Approach to Music Fundamentals by William Duckworth

A New Approach to Sight Singing by Berkowitz, Fontrier, Kraft


Also, please buy a spiral bound notebook of 81/2 x 11 staff paper or larger and a pencil.
